Intermediate Knitters Finished size: will stretch to fit the average woman's hand Materials: 1 skein of Misti International's Alpaca Hand Paint Worsted (218yds/100grams); US 5 (3.75mm) double point needles. Glove shown in color EZ08 Pink/Brown. Gauge: 6 sts = 1" in stockinette stitch on US 5 double point needles or size to get gauge Note: The gloves begin with the bobble accent. You can eliminate the bobble accent and start with the 1x1 rib. Just cast on 45 sts and work a few extra rows in rib. You can also eliminate knitting the separate digits. When you are almost to the base of the fingers change to 1x1 rib and work several rows in rib before binding off all stitches. Make Bobble (MB): Knit in the front, back, front, back and front again of same st, turn, k5, turn, k5, turn, k5, k5, slip 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sts over first st, slip rem st back to left needle and knit it through the back of the loop (k1tbl). Make One Left-Slant Increase (M1L): With left needle tip, lift strand between needles from front to back. Knit the lifted loop through the back. Make One Rigth-Slant Increase (M1R): With left needle tip, lift strand between needles from back to front. Knit the lifted loop through the front. Instructions: With US 5 double point needles, CO 48 sts, dividing sts over four needles (12 sts per needle), pm, join and work bobble accent as follows: Knit the next two rnds. Nxt rnd: *MB, k5, rep from * to end of rnd. Nxt rnd (dec): Knit decreasing 4 sts, one st on each needle. (44 sts) Knit in k1, p1 rib until piece measures 2" from beg edge, increasing 1 st on last rnd. (45 sts) Note: If you have a long hand you might want to knit 2 to 4 rnds of stockinette stitch before beg the thumb gusset) Thumb Gusset Knit across 22 sts, pm, M1L, k1, M1R, pm, knit to end of rnd. (2 sts increased and 3 gusset sts between markers) Knit one rnd even. Inc 2 sts inside gusset markers in this manner every 3 rnds six times. (15 gusset sts) Note: If the thumb gussett appears too short for your hand you can again knit several more rnds even in stockinette stitch. Nxt Rnd: Place gusset sts on length of contrast yarn, remove markers, use the backward loop method to cast on 1 st over the gap. Rejoin and knit to the end of the rnd. (45 sts) Work even until glove measures 3.75" from top of the rib. Note: You can knit more rows if necessary to reach the base of the little finger. Little Finger Nxt rnd: Work across 6 sts, place the following 34 sts on a holder, and use the backward loop method to cast on 1 st to close the gap. Distribute sts as evenly as possible on three double points, rejoin and knit to the end of the rnd. (12 sts) Work in the rnds until the little finger measures approx. .75". BO all sts loosely. Upper Hand Place held sts on three double point needles distributing them as evenly as possible, rejoin at gap formed by little finger, pick up and knit 2 sts along CO edge at base of little finger. (36 sts) Knit in rnds for approx. .6". Ring Finger Place first and last 6 sts on double point needles. Place rem sts on a holder. Using backward loop method CO 1 st to close gap. Arrange sts as evenly as possible on three double point needles. (13 sts) Work in rnds until ring finger measures approx. 1". BO all sts loosely. Middle Finger Place first and last 6 sts on double point needles. Pick up and knit 2 sts along CO edge at base of ring finger, use backward loop method to CO 1 st to close gap. Arrange sts as evenly as possible on three double point needles. (15 sts) Work in rnds until middle finger measures approx. 1". BO all sts loosely. Index Finger Place rem 12 sts on double point needle. Pick up and knit 2 sts along CO edge at base of middle finger. Arrange sts as evenly as possible on three double point needles. (14 sts) Work in rnds until index finger measures approx. 1". BO all sts loosely. Thumb Place held gusset sts on double point needle, pick up and knit 1 st along CO sts between thumb and hand. Arrange sts as evenly as possible on three double point needles. (16 sts) Work in rnds until thumb measures approx. 1". BO all sts loosely. Weave in all loose ends.
