Spend Saturday, July 17, with designer, author and decorative artist, Kristin Nicholas: The Edge of Color Workshop.
- 7/20/2010
Kristin Nicholas’ workshop on edge treatments in knitting will be held on Saturday, July 17, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Lenox Library, 18 Main St., Lenox MA. Kristin uses many little edge treatments on almost all her knitwear designs. Some are multi-colored, some are one color but with lots of textures. Working on your own knitted swatch you’ll sample numerous different edges that you can later use to transform plain knits be they garments or accessories into knits that are out of the ordinary. Participants will receive a mini booklet with 40 edging patterns to take away. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Workshop Description Edge treatments are like the icing on a cake. They can turn a plain old stockinette stitch pullover or cardigan into one with lots of style. Most are easy to do requiring only knowledge of knit and purl. Participants will get to choose the edgings they wish to try under Kristin’s supervision. Among those that they can try are picot, corrugated ribbing, bobbled, mitered, corrugated and sculpted bell. Many of the edges will be knit in multiple colors for more impact. Kristin will also walk you through her design process telling you why she chooses certain edgings for certain projects. This workshop is open to knitters who know the basics of knitting. It is helpful but not necessary that knitters know how to work with multiple colors. There will be a one-hour lunch break. Lunch is not provided. Workshop participants will need to bring: - an 8˝ x 8˝ swatch knit in stockinette stitch in a worsted weight (4 sts to 5 sts per inch gauge) yarn
- at least 3 colors of solid worsted weight yarn
- two US 7 (4.5mm) double point needles
- scissors
Workshop fee: $65.00 Full payment for the workshop is required at the time of registration. See cancellation policy below. Workshop limited to 10 participants.
